Corso Internazionale di Musica Rinascimentale di Firenze
Florence International Renaissance Music Workshop

Polyphony in Italy between the 15th and 16th Centuries

From September 2nd to September 10th, 2017, the Associazione L’Homme Armé organizes the first edition of FloReMus – Florence International Renaissance Music Workshop.

The workshop is aimed at singers, instrumentalists, ensembles and conductors.

The musical program this year will focus on the polyphonic repertoire, both sacred and secular, in Italy between the 15th and 16th Centuries.

A particular focus will be on the influences of European music on Italian music, dedicating special attention to the music of Heinrich Isaac, whose 5th centenary of the death recurs this year. The workshop will be structured in different didactic sections, with individual and group lessons, that will lead to the preparation of several final concerts in which the participants will sing important pieces of the music of the time together with the teachers, members of L’Homme Armè.

In the same period, L’Homme Armé will organize the FloReMus Festival, “Renaissance music in Florence”, that includes concerts performed by leading European musicians of the early music field and conferences dedicated to the subject.

Description of the course

There will be two main classes that will take place at the premises of the Scuola Di Musica di Fiesole:

  • “Cappella” workshop (September 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 10th): repertoire for big ensembles (sacred music, carnival songs and trionfi).
  • “Consort” workshop (September 4th– 10th ): repertoire for small ensembles (songs, chansons, frottole, madrigals). The participants can attend both group and individual lessons.

There will also be a special workshop for children (8 to 12 years old)

  • “Renaissance in Music for Children” (September 4th– 10th ): a musical journey across the lyrics, myths, tales and characters that fill the vocal music of the time.

On September 10th different final concerts will take place in particularly significant venues for the history of the Renaissance in Florence. Every participant who attended the workshop will receive a certificate of participation.
