CONSORT
(Voices and instruments)

 

A – Advanced level

The course is aimed at both small ensembles and individual singers and instrumentalists who have an extensive experience in singing and/or playing ensemble music. The course will focus on the study of madrigals of the XVI cent. and in particular on the works by C. Festa, P. Verdelot, A. Willaert, J. Arcadelt, F. Corteccia, C. de Rore, L. Marenzio, J. de Wert etc.
Vocal coaching lessons will be held during the course.

B – Basic/intermediate level

The course is aimed at both small ensembles and individual singers and instrumentalists who have a fair experience in ensemble music. The course will focus on the study of secular music of the XVI cent. such as: villanellas, napolitane, villotte, etc.

CAPPELLA

A – Intermediate/advanced level

The course is aimed at vocal ensembles or individual singers who have a good experience in “a cappella” singing and can read music at first sight.
The course will focus on the study and performance of sacred and spiritual repertoire connected with the main Italian Musical Institutions of the XVI cent. of the period that goes from the late production of Josquin Desprez to that of Palestrina. Sessions of vocal coaching, both solo and group, will be held.

B- Basic/intermediate level

The course is aimed at vocal ensembles or individual singers who have a fair experience in choir singing, with a sufficient capability of reading music connected with the repertoire to be studied. The theme of the course is the sacred music of the XVI cent. of medium difficulty with a particular focus on the Florentine and Roman musical repertoire.

FIATA CONSORT
(Recorders, shawms and crumhorns)

 

A – Intermediate/advanced level

The course is aimed at instrumentalists or ensembles who already have a good experience in ensemble playing and historically informed performing practice. Subjects such as Renaissance diminuitions, improvisation on a ground, and the performing practices and articulation in wind instruments during the XVI cent. will be explored. The course will analise the treatises of the period: Ganassi, Ortiz, Della Casa, Rognoni, anonymous instrumental treatises, etc. The participants will collaborate with their colleagues of the Consort A course in the form of “broken consort”. The course will take place from Sept. 3 to Sept. 9.

B-Basic/intermediate level

The course is aimed at individual wind instrumentalists and groups (pre-existing or to be formed during the course) who want to approach instrumental performing practice of the Renaissance and get to know the treatises of the period. The program of study will include both solely instrumental music and also music for voices and instruments. The course will be held from Sept. 3 to Sept. 9.

MUSIC OF THE RENAISSANCE FOR CHILDREN

The course is aimed at children in between the ages of 8 and 12 (this upper limit is not mandatory for girls) and it is structured as a multidisciplinary exploration in the vast and complex world of the Italian Renaissance culture. Starting from the poetical texts of the sacred and secular musical pieces of the period (canti carnascialeschi, villanelle, laude), the themes, the various characters, the stories and the places will be explored. The course will be held from Sept. 3 to Sept. 9.

CONDUCTORS

The course is aimed at conductors of choirs and ensembles who are interested in deepening their knowledge of the various aspects of the musical repertoire of the XVI cent. from Josquin Desprez to Palestrina. The course will be structured so as to include vocal performance, study of the score, conducting techniques and an exploration of the performing practices connected with this particular musical repertoire. The maximum number of students is limited to 4.

Ensembles of 4 to 7 members – one single application fee of euro 100

+ full tuition fee for every member.

Ensembles of 8 members and more – one single application fee of euro 80

+ full tuition fee for every member.
