The program of this year’s series of concerts will also include modern music: in fact the sensational success of one of the concerts of “AntiCOntemporaneo”, the Madrigal Mystery Tour, that brings together madrigals composed by John Dowland at the time of Queen Elizabeth I and a rich selection of songs of the Beatles, has induced the organizers to console, with a rerun on Friday October 19th, the many who had not found a seat at the concert that was held at the Museo Marini in July. The music of the Beatles is revisited by rearranging the songs in madrigalistic form without betraying the original rythmical spice although being accompanied by a band of four musicians playing early instruments.
On Wednesday October 24th the program calls for SALVE, FLOS TUSCAE GENTIS, Sacred Music in Florence between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, a rich selection of works by musicians who were active before and after the significant sojourn of Guiullame Dufay in Florence. The concert presents the various musical styles of the time: the first is the one that can be found in the musical compositions of Gherardello, Paolo and Lorenzo, that shows the characters of the counterpoint subtilitas and of the expressive dulcedo; the other, which one can find in the Ave Verum and in the Veni Sancte Spiritus by anonimous, is the technique of the cantus binatim, a simple counterpoint that derives probably from an improvisational praxis that was handed down orally.
In the last part, in between two works by Dufay, written in Florence, we will listen to two pieces by Heinrich Isaac, a marian motet and Quis dabit, the very well known lament written for the death of Lorenzo the Magnificent.
On Friday October 26th, the soprano Elena Cecchi Fedi, accompanied at the harpsichord by Alfonso Fedi, will present Da Monteverdi … a Monteverdi, music by C. Monteverdi, S. Scheidt, H. Scheidemann, J.J. Froberger. The program phocuses on the fundamental role of Monteverdi (and more generally of Italian music) in seventeenth-century music scene.
The series of concert will be closed on Monday, October 29th by the Missa de beata Virgine et alia carmina: Josquin and the Flemish composers in Italy, music by Josquin, Brumel, Isaac, Weerbeke, Ninot le Petit e Coppini.
The Missa de beata Virgine is one of the last franco-flemish compositions by Josquin Desprez, one of the most important composers of all times. Edited for the first time in 1514, it has been the most famous mass of the main part of the XVI cent. The Missa will be presented here in concert form with inserted musical compositions of authors contemporary to Josquin. This alternation will show the connected musical styles and the similar cultural environments; this combination aims to highlight moreover the expressive character of these musical compositions, which are based on different texts and that may appear far removed from the atmosphere of a modern concert. The performance, which is particularly rich in nuances, will find a special sound form against the beautiful visual background of the Cenacolo of Andrea del Sarto.
With a program similar to the latter, the ensemble L’Homme Armé will perform on Sunday, October 21st in Rome, invited by the very prestigeous festival Concerti del Quirinale, which are broadcasted live by the Italian national radio station RAI3.
On the afternoon of October 20th, a preview of the above concert, in the form of a n open dress rehearsal dedicated to Sara Chiarenza (a friend and collaborator prematurely passed a way) will take place in a artistically and spiritually significant venue in Tuscany.
